Why do you need an EpiPen case?

Carrying your EpiPen auto-injector in a secure, protective case is vital if you have a severe allergy. Anaphylaxis can happen anywhere; at home, at school, at work, in a restaurant etc. It's impossible to know where you might come into contact with an allergen and it's not always possible to avoid contact. Predicting the severity of an anaphylactic reaction is difficult as past allergic reactions are not indicators of the severity of future reactions. Having your EpiPen auto-injector with you can mean the difference between life and death.

At Allergy Lifestyle we understand that you may have different requirements for carrying your Adrenaline/Epinephrine auto injector, depending on age group, climate and lifestyle so we have put together a large range of quality cases, carriers, holders and pouches to suit EpiPen, Anapen, Jext and Emerade adrenaline auto injectors to ensure you can carry them with you at all times.

The Science Bit

The effectiveness of adrenaline may be reduced if it is not stored at room temperature (15-25°C). Adrenaline is light sensitive and should be protected from light, moisture and extremes of temperature.

The Scary Bit

It is estimated that approximately 30 people die each year in the UK from Anaphylaxis. Most fatalities were in the 18 to 25 age group, did not have their EpiPen auto-injector on them and died within 30 to 40 minutes. As a mother to a child with anaphylaxis this was frightening reading but we haven’t left the house since without our auto injectors in their secure EpiPen case. Having your EpiPen,  Anapen, Emerade or Jext auto-injector on you may save your life. It is recommended that you carry two EpiPen/Anapens/Jext/Emerade adrenaline pens at all times.

Visiting an Allergy Specialist and putting an ‘Allergy management plan’ in place is advisable. This is particularly important if you are managing Asthma as well as Anaphylaxis. Ensure you are confident in how and when to use your auto-injector and or anti-histamine and draw up a management plan for schools and carers.

Seek advice from your allergy specialist on what age it is appropriate for your child to take responsibility for carrying adrenaline auto injectors and at what age they can be shown to self- administer in case of emergency.

Consider enforcing the "No adrenaline pen, no food" rule. It may seem extreme but it saves lives, don’t take a chance go home and get the pen.  A means to have your adrenaline auto injector on you at all times needs to be part of your ‘Allergy management plan’ and that's where Allergy Lifestyle can help.
